Coldplay’s first show of their Australian stadium tour was derailed on Wednesday night after a band member suffered a health emergency.
For the first time in his career, singer Chris Martin announced that the band would play their first show at Melbourne’s Marvel Stadium without bassist Guy Berryman after he suffered an illness.
During the concert, Chris, 47, said: “We’ll have a slightly different show and we’ll do our best to make it amazing because we’re in Melbourne with all you beautiful people.”
‘If you see some errors and problems, it’s because we don’t have our bassist. “You won’t see Guy tonight because he’s vomiting,” the singer added.
On Instagram after Wednesday night’s show, the band thanked their fans for their understanding.
‘Tonight was the first time in our band’s history that we played a show without all four members on stage. Guy got sick unexpectedly right before the show. Thank you for helping us get through this.’
It remains uncertain whether Berryman will return to the stage for tonight’s sold-out show in Melbourne.
Coldplay’s four-night stay at Marvel Stadium continues with shows on Saturday and Sunday before the band moves to Sydney for another four sold-out shows at Accor Stadium next week.

It comes after Australian musician Gordi reduced Coldplay frontman Chris to tears on Monday during an event at Bakehouse Studios in Melbourne.
The singer-songwriter, 31, whose real name is Sophie Payten, said the pop-rock star cried after listening to her new single Lunch at Dune.
Gordi took to Instagram the morning after the event to detail the shocking moment, revealing that the Fix You creator “said songs like that deserve to be heard.”
“I started playing the song and at that moment, in the second verse, I was like, ‘What the fuck is going on? “I’m with Chris Martin, calm down,” Gordi said.
‘I close my eyes, lean into the emotion of the song. The next thing I know the song is over, I open my eyes, I look at Chris Martin and he’s crying and tears are coming out of his eyes.’

‘He said very nice things about the song. He told me it was beautiful, he said songs like that deserve to be heard.’
“It was just the craziest, most beautiful moment of my life. And I can’t believe no one caught it on camera.
The artist, who also works as a doctor, was invited to a secret meeting with several local artists to meet Chris this week.
Pop singer-songwriter Kian and indie rockers Radio Free Alice were among the guests, and Gordi got a special call from Chris.
‘Apparently, when Chris Martin goes to other countries, he likes to meet local artists. Truly an amazing man; ‘Who could bother doing that when they’re on tour?’ Gordi revealed.
She went on to say that Chris asked the musicians he invited if “there’s an artist in the room named Gordi,” prompting her to raise her hand.
“He said, ‘I’ve heard your music. She’s really beautiful.” I said, “Thank you, Chris Martin,” Gordi detailed.
