Many suspected a love triangle could be part of the motivation for the sea change, as Simpson is now dating Chalmers’ ex-girlfriend, pool queen Emma McKeon.
However, Simpson told the Amazon Prime Video commentary team on Friday that he and Chalmers talked and “cleared the air.”
His comments came after Chalmers took to Instagram to criticize media reports of his decision, calling the situation a “nightmare”.

Simpson hopes to compete in the 100m butterfly for the Commonwealth Games in July-August after finishing third in the flyweight final on Thursday night.
While freestyle isn’t his favorite style, he lined up in a heat that included leader William Yang on Saturday morning.
Now it’s Cody’s rumored romance with Olympian Emma that really has people talking.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Cody and Emma, 27, are “completely in love” and have “moved in together in the last few weeks”.
The publication understands that they travel to and from training together each morning, and have refrained from PDA in an attempt to keep their budding romance private.
They are absolutely together. There is no doubt that they are an item,” a source told The Daily Telegraph, adding that they have “fallen in love with each other”.
Emma’s ex-boyfriend, fellow swimmer Kyle Chalmers, has lashed out at speculation that a love triangle is behind him, retracting his decision not to participate in the 100m butterfly at the upcoming world championships, in a move that almost certainly ruined Cody’s dream of competing in the event.
