After almost three weeks of dramatic and entertaining sport, The 2024 Paris Olympics The XXXIII Olympiad of the Modern Era will conclude on Sunday, August 11 with the Women’s Marathon, in addition to the gold medals that will be awarded in basketball, water polo, wrestling, modern pentathlon and various cycling disciplines.
When is the closing ceremony?
The ceremony will begin at 7pm UK time (i.e. 8pm French time) and viewers will be able to watch it on BBC One, BBC Red Button and BBC iPlayer.
Where is the closing ceremony?
Although the opening ceremony took place on the banks of the River Seine, a first for the Olympic Games, the closing ceremony will take place at the Stade de France.

What will happen at the closing ceremony?
The artistic director of the Paris 2024 Olympic ceremonies, Thomas Jolly, has dubbed the ceremony “Records” and, according to the first details, more than 100 artists will take part in the final show. Musical performances, an original soundtrack and acrobats will be the elements that will take spectators on “a journey through time, past and future”.
The Stade de France will be transformed into a virtual concert hall with a 2,800 m2 stage.
The usual traditions of Olympic closing ceremonies, such as the extinguishing of the Olympic flame, the handover of the Olympic flag to the Los Angeles 2028 Organising Committee and the parade of athletes, will go ahead as Paris brings to a close a summer of sport.
Will Tom Cruise appear?
Tom Cruise is expected to perform a major stunt at the closing ceremony, symbolically handing over the games to Los Angeles in 2028.
TMZ was first to report that Cruise’s plan involves “rappelling down the top of the Stade de France” before landing at the stadium and carrying an Olympic flag.
The livestream will reportedly show pre-recorded footage of the Hollywood star riding through the streets of Paris on a motorbike and then boarding a plane bound for California.
