Chloe Covell has failed to etch her name into the record books in her quest to become Australia’s youngest Olympic gold medallist.
The 14-year-old Gold Coast native couldn’t make her textbook-learned skate tricks stick on a frustrating afternoon beneath the Eiffel Tower.
She was hoping to break the 68-year-old record set by Australian legend Sandra Morgan at the 1956 Melbourne Olympics.
Considered one of the strongest in a talented field, the magnitude of the occasion took its toll on the 14-year-old, who fell in both of her runs and failed to land her best tricks in her first three attempts.
After conceding her third trick, the Australian ran to her father and burst into tears as her campaign crumbled.
She needed to sweep her final two attempts to stay in the race, but crashed to the concrete again before being embraced by her competitors after realising her Olympic dream was over.
