Chip and Joanna Gaines sparked backlash following the release of the trailer for their newest show, Fixer Upper: The Lakehouse, which dropped last week.
Despite gaining a loyal following since rocketing to stardom after the first season of their HGTV series Fixer Upper in 2013, the couple came under fire for flaunting their wealth.
After seeing the sneak peek of their latest project Fixer Upper, uploaded to Magnolia Network’s Instagram, several fans began commenting that the couple seemed to be “showing off.”
One explained: ‘I don’t like seeing HGTV personalities renovating their own luxury second or third homes. It seems like they are bragging.
“That show isn’t funny anymore,” another wrote while many others admitted they stopped watching their show entirely after they decided to charge “for their network.”

In response to the comment accusing the couple, who share five children, of being ostentatious, several Instagram users defended Chip, 49, and Joanna, 46.
“Don’t be jealous, they earned it,” one responded.

At no point during the trailer did Chip or Joanna state that they planned to keep the property, as they were apparently renovating it into something like they had in the past.
During the trailer, the duo noted that the renovation project coincides with the 10th anniversary of the debut of their hit series on HGTV.
“I think with this lake house, there’s something about it that’s meaningful: This project landed on our 10th anniversary of Fixer,” Joanna said at the beginning of the trailer. So it feels like…’
Chip then chimes in: “It really was meant to be.”
In a press release obtained by ABC Newsfor their upcoming six-episode series, which will air on Magnolia Network and HGTV, the couple admitted they “couldn’t have imagined the journey we had ahead of us.”
“While many things have changed and evolved in the decade between then and now, our love of home remains at the center of everything we do,” they said.

The reality stars admitted things are “changing” between their romance and raising their five children while overseeing a lifestyle empire that includes a product line at Target and their own television network during a candid interview with People.

‘What we have realized about our children is that they want to feel as normal as possible. That’s why they never talk about any of that. “I think they love the idea of blending in and feeling normal,” Joanna explained.
‘We understand. But maybe one day they will be proud of this,” he added, referring to his lifestyle brand giant Magnolia.
The couple said they understand it might mean letting their children let loose and discover a passion other than the family business.
“Obviously, at some point it would be really fun to have one or two of our kids work with us, but that’s definitely not what we say out loud to them,” Joanna said.
“Chip is very good at saying, ‘You need your own identity. When you finish college, do some things on your own. Learn some things. And then if you want to come back years later and teach us, we “You’re here.”‘

Although the children may be too young to appreciate their parents’ hard work, the couple said every once in a while they get a compliment, like when they opened their 1928 boutique hotel on Nov. 1.
“They kept saying, ‘I can’t believe something like this is in Waco.’ We felt like we were in New York City.” That was the biggest compliment,” Joanna said. “I thought, ‘Oh, they’re finally impressed.’ “It felt like a big victory.”
“Teenagers aren’t known for praise,” Chip added. “I’m sure we’re not the only parents who come home and say, ‘I wonder if these teenagers like us, let alone like the work we’re doing.'”

“They’re working on their own things,” Joanna agreed.
Clearly, the couple has been working on their own stuff too, as they’ve found a way to appreciate each other after all these years together.
‘I think that’s the beauty of relationships in general. If Chip wasn’t my partner, he’d probably still be in the corner,” Joanna admitted. ‘From the moment I met him, he’s always experienced change in a positive way. Even if it was negative, it was, ‘It’s okay. What do we do next?”
And he added: “We have had many changes in our lives and the proof is there: change is difficult, but it is always beautiful.”
“I hope this is just the beginning,” Chip said. ‘I hope that in 20 years we can look back and feel just as confident about what we were meant to be. We really feel like, in some ways, we’re just getting started.’
