Kansas City Chiefs running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire is being recognized for helping save a child’s life in the shooting that took place after the team’s Super Bowl parade.
In a Facebook post, Penny Hall Cotten thanked Edwards-Helaire for her help in bringing her son, Zach, home safely.
“Thank you so much to Clyde Edwards #25 for sheltering and getting my creep to safety,” the mother wrote in the post.
‘Clyde even went back to check on Zach to make sure he was still okay. What a great human being!!!
“But before all that unnecessary fuss happened, Zach was having the time of his life.”

Edwards-Helaire responded to a Facebook post from Zach’s mother, thanking the teen.

Edwards-Helaire responded to the Facebook post with one of her own and even offered some advice to parents on how to move forward after the tragedy that left one dead and 21 injured.
“Hi Mrs. Penny, Zach was brave for sure!!,” Edwards-Helaire wrote. ‘I’m sorry the family and all of ChiefsKingdom had to go through this.
‘I just wanted to thank Zach for trusting me and knowing that I will protect him.
‘Side note: As a person suffering from PTSD, Kansas City area children and parents should refrain from mentioning and mentioning traumatic experiences.
‘Always think positively and when those bad days come (because they will come) the comfort and knowing that (someone) is with you is the best (medication).
‘To everyone (in) the Kingdom! Smile today because we can always change tomorrow.’
Three suspects have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Two of them are minors, but all are charged as adults.
