Chelsea ‘reach agreement in principle with Inter Milan’ over Romelu Lukaku’s loan spell’
Chelsea reach an agreement in principle with Inter Milan on Romelu Lukaku’s loan spell at the club… with the Belgium international expected to ‘get his medical treatment NEXT WEEK’ before returning £8million to the San Siro
Chelsea have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Inter Milan on the transfer of Romelu Lukaku this summer.
According to the athletic, Inter Milan will pay €8 million plus add-ons to temporarily secure Lukaku’s services ahead of the 2022-2023 campaign.
The Belgium international is expected to undergo a medical next week before returning to the San Siro.
The Belgian striker has made no secret of his desire to return to Serie A after a poor season at Chelsea, scoring just 15 goals in 44 appearances.
In Italy, Lukaku appeared to be leading the way in pushing the comeback, even bypassing his agent Federico Pastorello by answering the phone with Inzaghi more than two months ago.
The call is said to have taken place at 8:30am on April 5 and, after wishing the coach a happy 46th birthday, Lukaku reportedly asked, ‘Sir, what can I do to get back to Inter?’
The conversation came the day before Chelsea played their crystal clear quarter-final of the Champions League, the first leg against Real Madrid.
They lost the game 3-1, with Karim Benzema scoring a stunning hat-trick, and Lukaku lost one of Chelsea’s best chances of the evening when he headed wide from a good place.
