- Lucas Vázquez and Brahim Díaz scored to give Real Madrid control in Charlotte
- Noni Madueke reduced the deficit for Enzo Maresca’s team just before the break
Chelsea’s pre-season tour of the United States ended in another defeat as Real Madrid claimed a 2-1 win in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Goals from Brahim Díaz and Lucas Vázquez put the Champions League holders ahead in the 30th minute. Noni Madueke reduced the deficit before the break, but Enzo Maresca’s side were unable to avoid defeat.
Mail Sport’s Kieran Gill was in attendance in North Carolina and you can read his player ratings below.

Chelsea (4-2-3-1)
Filip Jorgensen – 6
He made his first start for Chelsea ahead of a season in which he hopes to become number one, but his defending did not help him in this game as Real Madrid regularly threatened to score.
Reece James – 5
Against Vinicius Junior, James survived a penalty when he scored from behind, but the Real Madrid superstar generally beat him in one-on-one duels.
Benoit Badiashile – 5
They had to chase down several balls back as Chelsea’s high line was constantly exposed, and a single pass left their opponents’ quick players out of the game.
Levi Colwill – 5
He made a few mistakes, including a lazy retreat when Real Madrid opened the scoring. Like Badiashile, Colwill was constantly beaten by a single pass behind his back.

Bad Taste – 6
Chelsea were concerned when he fell to the ground twice in pain, but thankfully he recovered and was able to continue playing. He played Sterling in behind after reversing the ball, but his perfect pass was not rewarded with a goal.
Romeo Lavia – 6
He started all five of Chelsea’s friendlies after barely featuring last season due to injury and has looked increasingly composed as a playmaker with each appearance.
Enzo Fernandez – 6.5
A cross to the far post from Madueke allowed Chelsea to regain possession, as the player took advantage of spaces to receive the ball. He took the captain’s armband after James was substituted.

Noni Madueke – 7
He was initially eliminated by Antonio Rudiger, who did not realize that it was a simple friendly, and headed in Fernández’s cross to make it 2-1.
Christopher Nkunku – 6.5
The biggest news is that unlike last summer, Nkunku has come through this tour unscathed. He almost equalised at 2-2 early in the second half as he was a constant threat.
Raheem Sterling – 5
He had several chances to score, which was good, but he didn’t take any of them, which was unfortunate. A long pass across the six-yard box didn’t find anyone. It wasn’t his day.
Christopher Nkunku has emerged from this tour unscathed and has been a constant threat.
Marc Guiu – 6
He bothered his teammates when he stalled a play by passing back in the first half, but began to get more involved in sequences in the second half.
Subs
Mykhailo Mudryk (by Sterling, 58) – 6
He ran all over the field, but when it came time to score, he eluded him.
Moses Caicedo (by Lavia, 58) – 6
Tenacious even in a friendly, sitting next to Fernández after replacing Lavia.
Enzo Maresca hopes Chelsea will be ready for the start of the Premier League season
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (by Marc Guiu, 66) – 6
Perfect player for Maresca because he knows his system like the back of his hand and that is evident on the pitch.
Wesley Fofana (by James, 70) – 6
He replaced James, meaning he played the final 20 minutes at right-back for Chelsea.
MANAGER
Enzo Maresca – 6
They suffered a fifth and final friendly defeat on their tour of the United States, but progress is being made and Chelsea are expected to be ready for the start of the Premier League season.
