The famous chef, 54, shared the shocking news on Instagram and revealed what her next professional step would be.

“At the end of June I will hang up my restaurateur hat to make room for what has become closest to my heart,” he began.

‘I would like to move on to the next phase of my practice. Through the lens of food and interconnection, I want to dedicate my energy to helping share other people’s stories.’

Kwong’s famous restaurant in Everleigh, a Sydney suburb, is famous for its varied menu, including many delicacies such as crispy-skinned duck and savory pies.

Kwong said he believes the love of food is a rich cultural tradition that unites people and he wanted to work to explore this further.

‘The important voices from our multicultural communities that make Australia the rich and diverse country it is. “Food remains a simple but universal connector,” he said.

“I want to delve deeper and hope to discover other people’s rich narratives.”

Kwong rose to fame in 2003 with her ABC television series Kylie Kwong: Heart and Soul, a show that brought her restaurant into the national spotlight and had customers lining up around the block.

He also made a guest appearance on MasterChef in 2012, appearing in the show’s fourth season.

The culinary icon reappeared in 2016 on the popular show to judge a Chinese street food contest.

In June 2019, he opened up about the heartbreaking moment his wife Nell gave birth to their stillborn baby in an interview with The Sunday Morning Herald’s Good Weekend.

The restaurant owner said that as a same-sex couple, she and Nell were “delighted” when Nell finally became pregnant in 2011.

But Nell’s pregnancy took a tragic turn when her water broke earlier than expected and the obstetrician gave her the news that her baby, named Lucky, would be stillborn in two days.

In 2015, on Nell’s 40th birthday, Kwong asked him to marry her, to which Nell said yes.
