A man from Sydney’s eastern suburbs has been charged after allegedly stealing a taxi in the CBD last week.
Police released footage of the incident on social media Thursday night in a public appeal, which showed the man wearing a suit as he allegedly damaged the car and threatened the 52-year-old taxi driver before fleeing in the vehicle.
After the alleged theft – which took place in Hunter Street around 8.50pm on 4 November – the taxi was in Woollahra but had suffered significant damage.
Following the police’s call on social media, a 42-year-old man from Bronte went to Waverley Police Station around 10 p.m. on Thursday.
He has been charged with taking and driving vehicles without the owner’s permission, driving in a dangerous manner and driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol.
The alleged perpetrator was granted conditional bail and will appear in court in Downing Center on December 7.
