Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan has detailed her character Penelope Featherington’s steamy upcoming scenes in the show’s third season.
The long-awaited new season of the show, which hits Netflix next month, will feature the Derry Girls star, 37, getting hot and bothered with her love interest Colin Bridgerton, played by Luke Newton, in steamy scenes.
The comedian spoke to Entertainment Weekly about filming the sex scenes, and revealed that they even broke furniture while getting hot and heavy.
Contrary to some actors’ aversion to filming sex scenes, Nicola revealed that she found filming “pleasant and enriching” alongside Luke.
She said: ‘We broke a piece of furniture while doing one of those scenes. She didn’t know how it was going to be, but it’s a bit like a trick where they say, ‘Okay, let’s do this, this and this’…

The comedian spoke to Entertainment Weekly about filming the sex scenes, and revealed that they even broke furniture while getting hot and heavy.
“But then they gave us freedom to like them, we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do…
“And that makes you feel quite empowered and you say, ‘Oh yeah, we’re going to do this, this and this.'” So we feel great. In fact, they were really nice. I didn’t think they would be. They were great. It was fun.’
Before talking about the raunchy moments, Nicola appeared on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen to talk about life as Lady Penelope.
Hilariously, she gave her character’s alias, Lady Whistledown, a Real Housewives motto, saying, “I may be behind the pen, but I’m always ahead of the gossip.”
Bridgerton is known for its racy scenes and Nicola has asked the producers for a ‘PG’ version so she can enjoy the show with her mother.
It comes after Nicola revealed that Bridgerton season three will be even edgier than the previous two.
The actress previously admitted that she was initially terrified of filming sex scenes with Luke Newton, who plays her love interest Colin Bridgerton.
Nicola shared: ‘I think we’ve got the sass out of this series! I’m so excited I can’t wait. It was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. Luke Newton, who plays my love interest, is wonderful.

The first installment of the third series of Bridgerton, with Nicola in the title role, will premiere on Netflix in mid-May.
Nicola added: “This season is really fun and romantic, they’ve incorporated a lot of romantic comedy. And it’s not something to watch with the family. Take from that what you will.
‘It was terrifying. I’m an Irish woman and any Irish woman would feel like she can’t do this. And then I went and realized it’s my job, so I better do it. I had a great partner and it was scary, but really liberating. By the end I was exhausted.”
The third season of the hit regency romance, which follows the eight Bridgerton siblings trying to find love, will continue the love story of Penelope and Colin.
Phoebe Dynevor, 28, starred in the period drama’s first season, in which she participated in multiple sex scenes with actor Rege-Jean Page, 35.
In the final episode of the second season, followed by Bridgerton’s eldest son, Penelope overheard her old friend Colin’s sarcastic comments to the other gentlemen about her and decided to finally give up her unrequited feelings for him.
