A couple has come under fire after deciding to charge their wedding guests to attend the big day because they would rather save $10,000 for home improvements.

The debacle was shared on Reddit’s Wedding Shaming thread with a mail criticizing an American couple for charging each guest a staggering $150 to attend.

Sharing the original Facebook post, the wedding shamer wrote: “The bride wants the guests to pay for her food because *checks notes* they’re not rich, and then some” has had just under 600 upvotes.

The Reddit community was quick to criticize the bride and groom’s antics, with people suggesting they would decline the invitation.

This anonymous bride, believed to reside in the US, came under fire when her post appeared on Reddit, in their Wedding Shaming thread.

The bride-to-be can be seen here asking potential guests for money, much to the dismay of the Reddit community.

The message originally shared by the poster on Facebook read: “We are going to ask our guests to pay for their seat which costs over $150 per head.”

She then proceeded to give reasons for her bold decision, citing limited funds, as well as “deserving the wedding of her dreams,” which angered people on Reddit.

The bride continued: ‘(We) prefer to spend money on improving our house rather than paying for it.

“We have everything we need and we don’t need any gifts and the only thing that matters to us is that the food is high quality and that we have a beautiful wedding.”

And he added that he hopes his loved ones “understand and respect” his choice: “We know a lot of people and we want our friends and family to be there and enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime event with us.”

“Plus, both of us, mainly me being the bride, absolutely deserve the wedding of our dreams.”

The Redditor who shared the post revealed that “three of her bridesmaids backed out, joking that it was for an ‘unknown’ reason.”

The second screenshot instructed wedding guests to RSVP as quickly as they could, but also asked them to send the money needed to purchase food at the reception.

Reddit users were furious at the bride-to-be’s nerve, with one saying: “Yes, she deserves to have the wedding of her dreams where no one shows up.”

Another joked: “If you can’t afford the wedding of your dreams then you literally don’t deserve it.” “It’s a holiday, not a birthright.”

And one even suggested that “this is when you turn down an invitation”, while others were surprised to see some rushing to support her in the other images shared in the post.

‘Reading those supportive comments is like being in an alternative universe. Oh!
