Houston police announced a major breakthrough as they continue to investigate after a newborn baby ended up in a dumpster outside a taco shop.
Authorities have been investigating the incident since rescuers found the baby with the umbilical cord still attached on Sunday.
As part of that investigation, officers reviewed surveillance footage from the scene to identify who placed the newborn in a dumpster full of trash and to locate possible witnesses.
They have since identified a suspect and are “continuing to work on the investigation,” spokeswoman Jodi Silva said. told ABC News.
No details about the suspect, including his alleged connection to the crime, have been released, and Silva said the suspect’s name will not be released until charges are filed.

Authorities say a passerby called 911 Sunday after hearing the baby crying from a full dumpster outside an apartment complex in southwest Houston.
Breathtaking images obtained by ABC13 Officers are then shown responding to the scene and finding the baby inside a bag.
Doctors were then seen wrapping the baby in a blanket next to the garbage container. The child looked like it had just emerged from the womb, with wet hair, shaved skin and the umbilical cord still attached.
Fortunately, he survived that terrible experience.
He was examined at a hospital and found to be in good health.
The baby is now in the care of Child Protective Services.

The Houston Police Department is investigating the taco truck where the baby’s mother allegedly works.
The apartment building’s manager later told the local outlet that a taco truck employee had given birth to the child inside the truck and left the newborn in the dumpster before returning to clean up the mobile restaurant.
They added that the truck was only parked there for about three hours on Sunday.

The baby was found sitting in a car seat outside a dumpster at a shopping center.
A man had previously called police to say he was experiencing a mental health crisis and was looking for a place to leave his baby.
The apartment building’s manager told the local outlet that a taco truck employee had given birth to the child inside the truck and left the newborn in the dumpster.
The baby’s father told the mother where to find the baby and she found him healthy and in good condition.
CPS has been called to assist.
The baby was the third baby found in the area in just one month, according to reports. Fox26.
Martee Boose of the Houston Fire Department said: ‘These are tragic stories and they don’t need to happen.
‘If a citizen has a newborn 60 days old or younger, they can drop off the baby at a fire station or hospital and those people will not ask them any information about the baby.
‘The most information you’re allowed to ask them is perhaps the baby’s medical history to make sure they’re getting the best medical care.’
