A collection of stickers sold online depicting Bluey characters in military camouflage and armed with firearms has sparked a backlash online.
The stickers show Bluey driving a ute, with his younger sister sitting on heavy weaponry mounted on the back.
Other stickers show Bluey’s parents, Bandit and Chilli, as well as his grandfather Mort, dressed in military uniforms and all carrying rifles.
The stickers, designed by ‘We Few’, were sold on online sticker marketplace Valor Vinyls.
Widespread online backlash led Valor Vinyls to quickly remove the designs from its website on Tuesday.
“It is totally inappropriate and vile to use children’s television characters in this way,” said one Australian.
“Gun culture should not be normalized or glorified in front of children.”
“I don’t care if I’m turning into Karen or whatever, this is horrible,” said a second.
An Australian artist and online retailer has been criticized for selling stickers depicting the family from beloved children’s show Bluey holding guns and wearing tactical gear (pictured).
A third said that even if it was intended as a joke, “it still sucks, there’s nothing funny about it.”
This isn’t the first time We Few has faced controversy over its designs.
A T-shirt manufacturer once stopped production on one of their designs, which showed Bert and Ernie torturing Oscar the Grouch, with the words “W is for Waterboarding.”
“The company that printed our designs decided that applying waterboarding to children’s characters is too violent for them and they no longer wish to provide the service,” the designer said.
Several Australians said the design contradicted the wholesome nature of the show and glorified “gun culture” towards children.
The artist behind the design previously had a manufacturer refuse to print his T-shirt featuring the torture of a Sesame Street character (pictured).
While that designer’s work has been removed from Valor Vinyl’s website, several other controversial products remain available for $8 each.
They include the chocolate mascot Freddo Frog holding a light machine gun and wearing a t-shirt that says “fuck you” while raising his middle finger.
Another mascot featured on the website is the Caramello Koala, who wears a t-shirt that says “bully” and wields two submachine guns.
