Blow to Man United as Anthony Martial has been ‘excluded from Sunday’s clash with Brighton and could be a doubt for Europa League trip to Granada’ after suffering a knee injury while on French service.
- Anthony Martial sustained a knee injury in a 2-0 win over Kazakhstan
- The attacker missed France’s victory over Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday
- Martial will now miss Manchester United’s match against Brighton this weekend
- He could also be a doubt for United’s quarter-final away leg in the Europa League
Anthony Martial will reportedly be unavailable for Manchester United’s match against Brighton following a knee injury while on duty in France.
The United forward picked up the injury in France’s 2-0 win over Kazakhstan in World Cup qualification and missed their 1-0 win against Bosnia-Herzegovina on Wednesday evening.
France boss Didier Deschamps allayed fears about the seriousness of Martial’s problem by saying it is ‘nothing serious’, but The team have claimed it will prevent him from playing United’s game against Brighton on Sunday.

The French publication also reports that the 25-year-old, who has only recently recovered from a problem with his hip, will have doubts about the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final against Granada the following Thursday.
The news comes as a blow to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who will likely also be without Mason Greenwood if they host Brighton after he had to withdraw from the European Under-21 Championship last week due to an injury.
Martial, who has missed just one of United’s Premier League games this season if fit and available, is expected to return in time for their trip to Tottenham on April 11.

The France international remains an important figure on the United team, despite struggling to hit the highlights of his best 23 goals of his career last season. This season he has seven goals and eight assists to his name in all competitions.
Dechamps had maintained earlier this week that Martial’s injury was not serious and even suggested that he could have played a role in their victory over Bosnia.
Before that match, the French boss said: “Anthony has a small problem with his knee. Nothing has been decided yet [as to whether he can play against Bosnia-Herzegovina]

A little later he no longer participates in the training. We see tomorrow (Wednesday). Anything serious has been rejected.
“We did some tests, but there is still the pain, and having traveled as long as we have, it didn’t help.”
Despite being weakened by the attacker’s absence, France managed to pass Bosnia thanks to second-half winner Antoine Griezmann.
The win has left France at the top of their qualifying group with seven points after a draw with Ukraine and a win against Kazakhstan.
