Billson's collapse leaves owners devastated

Today we have taken the terribly difficult decision to place Billson’s into voluntary administration.

In 2017, Felicity and I moved to Beechworth with the dream of restoring the historic brewery and creating a special experience for everyone who visited.

Together with the team, we have put our heart and soul into Billson’s and are proud of all that has been achieved.

Over 7 years, everyone’s hard work and passion resulted in overwhelming support from people across Australia and incredible business growth. Sadly, that growth obscured several mistakes we made along the way as our systems and processes failed to keep up. We bear the ultimate responsibility for these mistakes and know we have let people down. We are devastated and regret their decision.

We are devastated by the stress this decision will undoubtedly cause our team, suppliers, customers and fans. We have tried everything imaginable over the past 6 months to avoid this situation, including restructuring on two occasions, however we now feel this is the necessary step to survive.

The brewery has stood proud for over 150 years and has no doubt faced many other perilous times. The challenges we have faced in 2024 have been enormous and incomprehensible in scale. We will do our best to get through this so that Billson’s can emerge more resilient as a business and ready to take on another century.

We know how difficult the current situation is for everyone. With so many family businesses on the brink, any support you can provide to local businesses, in any way, will be more important than ever.

We intend for our on-premise to remain open 7 days a week and for our online store to operate as normal. We will continue to supply our fans through all of our amazing customers in bottle shops and on-premise across the country.

Thank you so much for your support over the years, it really means a lot to us. Despite our many shortcomings, we will never give up. With all its remarkable local history, we believe that Billson’s will overcome this, so that people can enjoy it in the future.
