The Big Give Christmas Challenge kicks off tomorrow with 765 charities participating and with the support of well-known supporters, including ballerina Dame Darcey Bussell.
James Reed, the boss of the recruiting firm of the same name, whose father Sir Alec founded the Big Give in 2007, said charities this year were facing a slump in donations and strong demand for Covid this year.

‘We want to give the industry a boost because they need it,’ said Mr Reed, adding that he hopes to raise £ 16 million within a week, starting Tuesday afternoon. During that time, all donations were made to participating charities at theBigGive.org.uk[http://theBigGive.org.uk] is doubled.
The Big Give has been responsible for raising a total of £ 135 million.
The so-called ‘match funding’ to double the donations is provided by a range of philanthropic individuals and organizations including The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust and The Childhood Trust, as well as the Reed Foundation which has invested £ 1 million.
Other celebrity supporters include Jonny Wilkinson, the Duchess of York, and Jo Brand.
