A Christian author has declared to be gay and announced that he and his wife will also be divorcing on Instagram.

Matthew Paul Turner took to social media to inform his readers and followers that he and his wife, Jessica Turner, who is also a writer, are divorcing.

Turner was a former editor of CCM, a bimonthly online magazine on contemporary Christian music, although he is also known for writing a series of rhyming children’s books, some of which have sold over 100,000 copies.

“Dear friends, I have difficult news to tell. After much thought, prayer, and counseling, Jessica and I made the decision to end our marriage, ”Turner began.

“While we are best friends and love life, parenting, and pursuing our dreams together, ending our marriage is imperative because I’m gay.

“As someone who has spent more than 30 years in fundamentalist / evangelical churches and explored God through conservative theologies, I have spent many days overwhelmed with fear, shame, and self-loathing,” Turner wrote in his Facebook post.

“But for the first time in my life, despite the sadness and sorrow I now feel, I can confidently say that I am ready to embrace freedom, hope, and God as gay.”

She told how the couple worked for over a year trying to make their marriage a success despite knowing her husband’s truth.

Ultimately, the couple felt it was not fair for any of them or their children.

“Our three incredible children received the news remarkably well,” wrote Jessica. “We are all adjusting to a new standard, with our home now extended under two roofs. I am so grateful for the way we love each other … We both regret the loss of what we had and hoped for things to come. ‘

The couple had been married for 16 years and had met online.

“I fell in love with her 17 years ago and I still love her intensely,” wrote Matthew Turner. “Despite her own grief and pain, she loved and encouraged me to be completely myself.”

The couple did not indicate when their divorce should be finalized.

Turner said he wanted to continue writing children’s books with the support of his publisher.

Jessica Turner is the founder of the popular blog The Mom Creative and writes about her family, motherhood in addition to DIY tips and how to save money.
