Bella Hadid has been criticized for her social media posts about Hamas’s alleged treatment of Israeli hostages.
The supermodel shared a post on her Instagram Stories on Wednesday in which she claimed that Hamas made freed hostage Almog Meir a birthday cake on Jan. 21 while he was in captivity.
But after he and the three other hostages were rescued, a clinical nutritionist revealed that the group had suffered severe malnutrition while held by the terrorists since October 7 last year.
He also shared a separate post on Wednesday, apparently suggesting that Hamas hostages receive better treatment than Palestinians detained in Israel.
Hadid, who has been a harsh critic of the war in Gaza, was accused of “spreading misinformation” and branded a “horrible human being” in the wake of the posts.
It comes as the Palestinian-American model starred alongside Sudanese-Canadian poet and singer Mustafa in his music video Gaza is Calling, which is supposedly a commentary on the situation in Palestine.

She also shared a separate post, (right) apparently suggesting that Hamas hostages receive better treatment than Palestinians detained in Israel.
The birthday cake post Hadid shared on her stories referenced a comment Jan made after being rescued on Saturday, but it was taken out of context.
The 21-year-old, speaking about the treatment he suffered in captivity, told public broadcaster Kan that his captors had made him a cake for his birthday. He called the move a “cynical” gesture.
Doctors at Tel Aviv’s Sheba Medical Center, where the hostages were treated after their rescue, said the four were malnourished during the eight months they were in captivity.
They only ate about a quarter or tenth of the amount they should have and lost a lot of muscle mass. The Jerusalem Post reported.
Outraged that Hadid shared the birthday cake post, social media users argued that her “account should be suspended for misinformation.”
One of them shared the cake post, which he called “fake,” along with a news article in which a doctor claimed hostages were “beaten and abused almost every day.”
Another criticized Hadid for being a ‘Chanel-clad Hamas groupie’, saying: ‘They took a man hostage, locked him in the bathroom, put blankets over him during a heat wave, threatened to kill him several times, but Oh my god, they did it. give him a birthday cake.’
‘Bella Hadid is spreading lies and supporting a terrorist organization once again. Even if it were true and they made him a cake, is she okay after kidnapping him and holding him for 8 months??, another questioned. “Thank God, the IDF managed to rescue him and now he can celebrate with his loved ones.”
One user added: “Maybe it’s time for Bella Hadid to try the ‘cakes’ in Gaza.”
The original birthday cake post has since been deleted.
Some social media users called Hadid a “horrible human” and accused her of spreading misinformation. They also used shared posts that seemingly refute allegations in their posts that Hamas was treating the hostages well.
Hadid was also criticized for a video she shared on her Stories in which freed nine-year-old hostage Ohad Mondar revealed some of the Arabic words he learned while held captive by Hamas.
The images also showed the alleged mistreatment of Palestinian children detained in Israel.
Hadid wrote in the post: ‘Can you imagine talking to a child this way? When he’s so traumatized by his life under siege that he can’t remember every moment?
‘I’m sorry, but fuck you.’ This is unpleasant.’
An X user alleged that the video, which was shared by the @SuppressedNws account after Hadid posted it to her stories, does not adequately describe the situation.
‘The boy upstairs was being interrogated because he tried to kill several people. It’s probably worth mentioning!’ he said, retweeting the footage.
‘Brother Suppressed got this Bella Hadid video.’

Earlier this week, Hadid appeared in poet Mustafa’s new music video, Gaza is Calling.
The short film, directed by Hiam Abbass, describes the story of a boy from Gaza that Mustafa supposedly grew up with and the current situation in Palestine. Cosmopolitan Middle East reported.
Hadid and 15-year-old rapper MC Abdul play a mother and son who have found refuge from the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
At the same time, the film tells the story of a teenage refugee and her brother who live in a displaced persons camp in Jenin.
“I wrote and recorded it in 2022, Bella and I conceptualized the video that same year, we filmed it last year,” Mustafa said in a post announcing the music video.
“It haunts me that this song/movie was written and recorded so long ago.”
And he added: ‘To Ali, wherever you are, I love you. (And) Bella, thank you for answering my call.’
Mustafa said that profits from the song will be donated to the Palestinian children’s relief fund.
