Barcelona ‘join Chelsea in the race to sign Andre Onana of Ajax’ after goalkeeper REJECTED Barca last summer
Barcelona ‘join Chelsea in the race to sign Ajax goalkeeper Andre Onana in the summer’ … one year after the former Barca B-stopper REJECTED Well Camp return
- Chelsea will have to fight against Barcelona to sign Ajax keeper Andre Onana
- The Catalans want to take care of Marc-Andre ter Stegen in competition
- The German has only held six clearings this season in a sticky season for Barca
- Onana came through Barca’s academy and was sold on the Dutch side in 2015
- The goalkeeper rejected the opportunity to return last summer when Barca approached
Andre Onana will enter a bidding war between Europe’s elite in the summer, with Barcelona joining Chelsea as the frontrunners in the race for the Ajax keeper.
Both sides look bright between the sticks, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen experiencing no competition for his place and Kepa Arrizabalaga out of shape in West London.
The Spanish giants have had a rocky season so far, with the loss of the La Liga leading to title rivals Real Madrid and being forced to change manager.
Ajax keeper Andre Olana will be a summer goal for both Chelsea and Barcelona
The former Barca academy has impressed the Dutch side in five seasons
Barca has conceded 13 more goals this season than Madrid, with ter Stegen only six clear in 23 league games. According to Sport, Barca expects Onana to come in and compete with their number one.
Ajax is reportedly after £ 35 million for the Cameroonian international, a price that Chelsea might be reluctant to have splashed £ 72 million on Kepa just 18 months ago.
Onana came through the Barcelona Academy and rejected the opportunity to sign again for the Catalans last summer and said, “It’s my home, but it was not the right time to return.”
Barcelona wants to use a goalkeeper this summer to put pressure on Marc Andre ter Stegen
They will face competition from Chelsea, who want to replace the struggling Kepa Arrizabalaga
Since the sale in 2015, Onana has become increasingly stronger. He is the Eredivisie side’s first choice since his arrival and played in the Champions League semi-final last season.
The towering 23-year-old keeper signed on the Amsterdam side until 2022, but Barca’s approach could be stronger this time.
They chose to sign ex-Valencia goalkeeper Neto after being rejected by Onana last summer, but he did not make enough impression to challenge Ter Stegen.
Olana played a central role last season in the great run of Ajax to the semi-final of the Champions League
