Margot has long been attached to playing Barbie on the big screen and promised that the movie will be very different from what people expect.
She said, ‘Something like Barbie where the IP, the name itself, people have an instant idea of, ‘Oh Margot plays Barbie, I know what that is’, but our goal is to be like, ‘Whatever you think, we’re going to give you something completely different – the thing you didn’t know you wanted.”
The Once Upon a Time in Hollywood star hopes the film will provoke a “thoughtful conversation.”

Margot said, ‘Can we really honor the IP and the fan base and surprise people too? Because if we can do all that and provoke a thoughtful conversation, then we will really hit full throttle.’
A recap on IMDB of the upcoming movie reads: “A doll living in ‘Barbieland’ is expelled from school for not being perfect enough and embarks on an adventure in the real world. A live-action feature film based on the popular line of Barbie toys.”
The film has been touted as “a fish-out-of-water story about a doll who is kicked out of the toy company for not being perfect enough,” according to a Vulture report.
Then she comes to realize that what’s inside is more important than her appearance.
What will it look like?
In April, a photo was released of Margot as Barbie sitting in a pink convertible on the film’s brightly colored set while fans were teased about the new film.
Meanwhile, the first image of Hollywood heartthrob Ryan as Ken caused fans to go wild on Twitter, with fans calling his look “terrifying.”
With short white hair, orange-brown and a double denim ensemble, fans wondered how stylists managed to make the normally gorgeous-looking man look “not hot.”

Meanwhile, Simu provided insight into preparing for the role and said he needed a full wax.
During an interview with The Independent, he said: ‘I have such a newfound admiration for the incredibly brave women who go through this monthly, referring to his waxing sessions as ‘the most painful experiences’ of his life.
Wasn’t Amy Schumer supposed to be in it?
All the way back in 2016, Amy Schumer was originally announced to be taking on the role, but she dropped out four months later.
“Unfortunately, I can no longer commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” she said at the time. “The film promises so much, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed about it, but looking forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”
Later, however, Amy admitted that it was less about planning and more about creative differences. “They definitely didn’t want to do it the way I wanted to do it, the only way I was interested in it,” she told The Hollywood Reporter.
“The idea that that’s exactly what every woman should want, there I should have gone, ‘You got the wrong girl,'” she added.
