Peggy, Kiera, Nelson and Buddy are names on the brink of extinction, according to UK parenting resource BabyCentre.
Experts say nicknames on the decline this year also include celebrity-related picks, such as Bruno, after the singer, and Vivienne, after the late designer.
Over the past year, names that once achieved popularity have declined, leading experts to classify them as “endangered.”
The near-extinct names were identified by examining the biggest declines between 2022 and 2023, and experts believe they will continue to fall throughout the year.
Faye Mingo, marketing director at BabyCentre, told Mirror: ‘These names may have fallen out of popularity, but they could be the perfect choice for your newcomer if you want a unique baby name. Although these names sound familiar to you, you are probably the only child in your class with that name.

Keanu ranks first among the most ‘endangered’ boy names for 2024.
The decline supports the notion of a decline in celebrity-based names given acclaimed Matrix actor Keanu Reeves.
Surprisingly, Flo, a shortened form of Florence, is considered the most endangered girl’s name.
Once again, the decline could be associated with up-and-coming actress Florence Pugh, who was associated with the nickname ‘Miss Flo’ last year.
However, it could be that parents choose to officially name their children Florence and use Flo colloquially.
Similarly, Maddy was under fire. Perhaps suggesting that parents opt for the more traditional version, Madeline.
Faye explained that they have closely monitored the alternative spellings that fluctuate in the charts.
However, he acknowledged that some parents still favor making this option unique.
She said: “We know there are always parents looking for something unique, so Zahraa, Kiera, Alyssia or Elyse could be the perfect choice for parents who want a name that stands out from the crowd.”
Elsewhere, traditional names associated with the baby boom generation are also in decline.
For example, BabyCentre declares Leroy and Nelson as “endangered.”
While Renee and Anita face the same risk for girls’ names.
It comes after the most popular baby names of 2023 were revealed, with a new name taking the top spot on the girls’ list – although it may not come as a surprise.
While Muhammad continues to reign supreme for boys, a girl’s name that had previously been bumped from the top spot has once again secured the crown, according to BabyCentre, the leading pregnancy and parenting destination.
In data obtained by the MirrorOlivia has returned to the number one spot for 2023, partly due to the way BabyCentre ranks its names.
The parenting platform now considers all spellings of a name as separate entries. While Sophia used to be one of the most popular names in the country, her ranking has dropped significantly since ‘Sophia’ and ‘Sofia’ were ranked separately.
It means that Lily, who came first in the half-year results and had previously been awarded to Princess Lilibet, has had her crown stolen by an old favourite, Olivia.
‘Parents spend a lot of time thinking not only about their baby’s name but also how it is spelled. “They may be small, but these differences are important to parents, so we will now include the spellings of all individual baby names in our charts,” Ms Mingo told the Mirror.
The parenting expert platform previously revealed its half-year data in July, placing Lily at the top of the girls’ list, followed by Sophia and Olivia.
However, Lily has since fallen to fourth place, with Amelia and Isla taking second and third position.
The top ten girl names of 2023 are now: Olivia, Amelia, Isla, Lily, Ava, Freya, Ivy, Sophia, Grace and Willow.
Meanwhile, Muhammad remained at the top of the list of boys’ names, followed by Noah, Theo, Leo and Oliver.
