Prior to Halloween, a Twitter user shared a story about the time a man lived inside the walls of his house – but his parents didn't believe him even after seeing eyes stare through a vent.
American author Grady Hendrix has a little history that tells scary stories after he has written several horror books. But on October 29, he told a hair-raising story that was real.
While typing for an enthusiastic Twitter audience, Grady remembered when he was nine years old and discovered a man in his kitchen at night – and then went on to find hints of him through the house that only he seemed to brands.
Scary stories: Grady Hendrix told a hair-raising story on Twitter about the time a man lived in the walls of his family's house when he was a child
Mischief: Grady said that when he was nine, he started sneaking down when everyone else was sleeping to eat snacks
& # 39; Everyone tells scary stories for Halloween, so I'll talk about something that happened to me when I was a kid, because hey, trauma never gets old, & # 39; he began.
The pro: Grady is an American author who has experience in telling scary stories
& # 39; When I turned 9, I realized that I could sneak down after everyone slept and eat anything I wanted in the fridge. Nobody ever noticed!
& # 39; I could make peanut butter, Cheez Whiz and a mayo sandwich, eat leftover pizza, scrape off the frosting of birthday cakes – as long as I was careful, I could do anything!
& # 39; Crawling down was the hardest part. I had to navigate all the way down through the pitch-dark house in total darkness like a little ninja. & # 39;
It was all fun and games until one evening in May 1981, when the family ordered Chinese food. When everyone else went to sleep, Grady crawled down for leftovers.
& # 39; I finally entered the completely dark pit and left me on my guard. Suddenly I heard a fork click on the counter. I froze. The microwave clock light showed the outline of a man sitting behind our counter.
Terrifying! In May 1981, he sneaked down and discovered a man in the kitchen who ate leftovers
Believe him! He tried to get his father and mother, but they made too much noise and the man had a chance to hide – and his family rejected his active imagination
Haunting: Grady began to notice other things that had been mysteriously disturbed, and one day he saw the man's eyes stare at him from the vent
& # 39; He could not see me, but I saw him: a skinny boy eating our leftovers and drinking our milk from the carton. & # 39;
Grady was clearly too terrified to consider the special strangeness of drinking milk with Chinese leftovers.
& # 39; I can't explain how frightening it is that someone IS IN YOUR HOME & # 39 ;, he said. & # 39; I moaned backwards, crawled upstairs and woke up my father and mother. & # 39;
Unfortunately, his parents did not seem too concerned that there was a real threat. They made too much noise and took the time to go down to check, and by the time they did, the man had fled.
& # 39; Everyone said I read too many horror strips, so they blew off what I said. But in no way did I pour milk on my breakfast cereal, & he went on.
& # 39; I started following the position of everything in the kitchen. One day the paper napkin holder was on the wrong side of the counter. Another day there was a mug in the sink that was NOT there the night before.
& # 39; My bedroom door didn't lock, so I held a steak knife under my pillow. I must have stuck myself in the hand 1000 times to check if it was there.
Whoops! His family finally believed him when the man died in the walls and the smell of his decomposing body invaded the house and maggots fell out of the AC
& # 39; Then I was reading in my room in August when I looked up. There is an air conditioning opening above my bed. Behind the ventilation a few eyes looked at me.
& # 39; I was shocked and cleared up until my parents searched our attic and the crawl space under our house. Nothing. I was not very popular for a few weeks. & # 39;
However, within a few weeks his family would start to believe him – although it took a very unfortunate event to convince them.
& # 39; The last week of August our house started to stink. One night rice fell out of the opening above my bed. Maggot. The A / C people said something had probably crept into our vents and died, & said Grady.
& # 39; What had crept into our vents and died was the man. We lived in an old house with a lot of space between the walls and large canals. He has been living in it since May. At least.
& # 39; He had placed a foam cushion next to my bedroom valve so that he felt comfortable looking at me. The police said he had made many "drawings," but when I asked, they pretended not to have said anything.
& # 39; No one has ever identified him. He was buried as a John Doe. To this day, I can't look through the vents in houses & # 39 ;, he said.
Books: Grady has written several novels, including We Sold Our souls and Exorcism from My Best Friend
& # 39; But sometimes, when I'm at someone's house, I smell a little BO from their central air-conditioning, and I wonder who lives in the back of their pipes. Who lives in the dark? & # 39;
Grady & # 39; s story has earned thousands of likes on Twitter, and readers have scared them to share their horror.
& # 39; Thank you for sharing. I can never be alone or sleep again, & wrote one.
& # 39; Now that we've read this, does someone want to come with me on a one-way trip to the center of the sun? & # 39; another joked.
Others felt a fair outrage that Grady was fired by his parents
& # 39; How could your family TWO PEOPLE not notice that they ate leftovers? My mother pressed the cookie cabinet for God's sake. She could see if we had one raisin, & wrote one.
& # 39; I want to follow up on how much influence this has given you with your parents for the rest of your childhood, & # 39; another said.
