Australian reveals crazy job that costs $178,000 and urgently needs more workers: ‘There’s money to be made’

A manual worker revealed his six-figure salary and told young people to “give the trades a chance” and that they didn’t have to go to university to have a “good career”.

The worker was stopped on the Gold Coast by TikTok producer GetAhead, who asked him what he did and how much he earned.

The man shared that he was an instrument electrician working in the oil and gas industry and making around $178,000 a year.

“I started out as a regular electrician and then I got my instrumentation certificate, which is another type of certificate besides certificate four and certificate three,” he said.

The worker said there were plenty of jobs in the fields and companies were always asking for instrumentation electricians.

When asked what advice he would give to young people who were unsure of what path to take after school, he said “try the trades.”

“I think there is definitely money to be made in trading,” he said.

“You don’t necessarily have to go to college or anything like that to have a good career.”

The worker told GetAhead that if he wasn’t working as an instrumentation electrician, he would probably be doing another trade.

According to talent.com, the average instrumentation salary in Australia is $109,733 per year.

Entry-level positions start at around $93,500 per year, and more experienced workers earn around $158,870 per year.

The role is responsible for the proper functioning of measurement and control systems across all industries including oil and gas, manufacturing, chemical, pharmaceutical and energy plants.

One nurse who saw the TikTok video commented that she had been a nurse for 20 years and hadn’t made anywhere near that amount of money.

Another person said they had clients with adult learners who were making around $120,000 working 40 hours a week.

“There’s always a lot of work in the trades and it’s a lot easier to do (renovations) and sell,” the person said.
