Dylan Wright was crowned the winner of Australian Idol 2024 during Monday night’s thrilling final, beating West Australian Amy Reeves and Queenslander Denvah Baker-Moller.

The Bangalow native was stunned by the life-changing news and almost burst into tears.

But many fans of Channel Seven’s renewal of the singing show are furious with the outcome and believe Amy should have taken home the top prize.

Several viewers took to X (formerly Twitter) to express their disappointment with the final results.

‘Call the police! A robbery has occurred on Australian Idol. Amy has been absolutely screwed. “She’s easily the best performer in idol history,” one wrote.

But many fans of Channel Seven’s renewal of the singing show are furious with the outcome and believe Amy (left) should have taken home the top prize.

Many more echoed the view that Amy was the rightful winner: “I have no words.” Amy has been robbed.

‘That?! Dylan won! He has a sweet voice, not a big voice. “Amy was robbed,” said another.

‘Surprised, Amy didn’t win. I thought she was the best singing show contestant in a long time,” said another Idol fan.

Meanwhile, other disappointed fans were hopeful for Amy’s future career, citing previous examples of the show’s runners-up.

“Usually the one who didn’t win gets bigger than the winner, I hope that happens to Amy,” one wrote.

Another brought up the example of Jessica Mauboy, who was runner-up on her season of Australian Idol and is now touring the country.

‘I think the guy who won presents community radio. You’ll be fine,” Amy’s fan wrote.

During Monday night’s finale, Dylan was emotional as he took home the crown.

‘Thank you. I don’t know. I’m about to cry! So thanks!’ she told the studio audience and judges Kyle Sandilands, Marcia Hines and Amy Shark.

Dylan walked away with a $100,000 cash prize and a recording contract with Sony Music Australia following the record public vote.

At the end of the show, she performed the winning single, Paper Heart, to rapturous applause.

Before the announcement, Sandilands said that both Dylan and Amy would have a bright future.

“As judges, what we want is to offer the best we have found,” he said.

‘I would be delighted to manage and sign these two. They both have incredible records. Could not be happier. “They are both just fantastic.”

During Monday’s thrilling grand final it came down to Western Australia’s Amy Reeves, Queensland’s Denvah Baker-Moller and New South Wales’ Dylan Wright. Everything in the photo
