Glamorous Australian boxer Avril Mathie is recovering well after surgery to have her breast implants removed, a decision she says is one of the best she has ever made.
Mathie, 37, began boxing in 2012, racking up 20 amateur fights before turning professional in December 2017. Since then, he has compiled an impressive 8-1-1 record with three knockout wins.
The bantamweight, who also won the prestigious Miss Swimsuit USA International crown in 2014, took to social media this week to announce that she had recently undergone surgery to have her breast implants removed.
‘If you noticed something about me looking a little different lately, you’re right. “Seven weeks ago I removed my breast implants after 18 years,” she said.
‘I got my first implants when I was only 19 because the culture I grew up in made me believe I was disproportionate and I was very insecure about my body.

Mathie decided to remove his implants after scans revealed that the implants were degrading.
‘I never loved or hated having them, but I did appreciate that overnight I went from being super self-aware to just being comfortable with my body and not thinking about it anymore.
‘Over the last few years I’ve seen girls I know have their implants removed due to breast implant illness and I didn’t necessarily think I had that, but it did prompt me to go and get them checked.
‘Although they looked perfect from the outside, scans revealed that the implants were actually not in the best condition and, although it was not an emergency, the doctor recommended that I consider removing or replacing them.
“I’m not going to lie, the recovery was absolutely brutal and I’m still not back to 100 per cent, which has meant a delay in getting back to boxing.”
Mathie went on to explain that he has fallen in love with his body again and is very happy to have the surgery and feel like his old self.
“Honestly, it was one of the best decisions of my life,” he said.
In 2023, Mathie was scheduled to fight Australian boxing champion Ebanie Bridges for her IBF belt.
Bridges told Daily Mail Australia at the time that he had a lot of respect for Mathie.

Mathie says his recovery from surgery hasn’t been easy, but he’s very happy he did it.
Mathie has been boxing professionally since 2017, compiling an impressive record of 8-1-1 with three KO wins.
‘I’m excited for this fight because I know our styles will combine well. “We both have a lot of followers too, so I’m going to call it the ‘Battle of the Babies,'” Bridges said.
“It will be the sexiest fight in history.”
He added: ‘Weighing will ruin the Internet.
Unfortunately, Mathie was forced to withdraw from the fight due to an undisclosed injury and was replaced by former junior bantamweight champion Miyo Yoshida.
Yoshida defeated Bridges and won the world title by unanimous decision.
