An Australian woman was seriously injured after falling 10 meters from a popular bridge while on holiday in Bali.

Sharyn Maree Lewis was staying with her partner at a resort on Nusa Lembongan, a small island southeast of Bali, to celebrate her 60th birthday when disaster struck on Sunday morning.

Klungkung police spokesman Agus Widiono said the Queensland woman was riding a rented motorcycle across the Yellow Bridge, which connects to Nusa Ceningan, another small island nearby.

“When I had almost reached the end of the bridge, the motorcycle’s brake suddenly stopped working,” Mr Widiono said.

“She and the motorcycle fell about 10 meters from the bridge.”

She has since been evacuated to BIMC Nusa Dua Hospital, on the southern mainland of Bali.

“The victim suffered an open wound to his right thigh,” Widiono said.

Photos from the hospital showed several nurses gathered around Lewis lying on a bed while her partner waited anxiously outside.

There have been no further updates on Ms Lewis’ condition.
