The body of a man suspected of shooting into a house and wounding an innocent driver has been found in a creek in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to a home on Antwerp Street in Auburn shortly before 10 p.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a domestic incident.

Officers were told a man known to the occupants had attempted to force entry before firing several shots into the home and fleeing before police arrived.

No one inside the house was injured.

Officers were called to nearby Mona Street after receiving reports that the 55-year-old man had been confronted by the man.

The gunman had fired at his car, hitting him in the neck.

The man was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a stable condition while police established a second crime scene on Mona Street.

The gunman is believed to have fled before killing himself in the Duck Creek bed. His body was found at 2:15 a.m. during a search of the area.

“While the investigation is ongoing, the man’s death is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner,” NSW Police said in a statement.

“There is no ongoing risk to the public.”

Police believe the shooting on Amberes Street and the incident on Mona Street are linked and have issued a public appeal for information.
