A woman was allegedly bundled into a Tesla, assaulted and held against her will in a quiet Canberra suburb, as police now desperately search for witnesses.

ACT Policing is seeking witnesses to an alleged family violence incident on Thursday, where a woman left a Franklin residence on foot around 5 p.m.

Police say the woman walked towards the nearby Nullarbor Ave light rail stop, where she was approached a short time later by a man driving a white Tesla with ACT registration YQC69P.

The man allegedly arrived at the light rail stop and asked the woman to get on the vehicle.

When the woman got into the vehicle, the man allegedly began to drive away with the passenger door still open.

Police believe the woman may have asked other road users for help while she was in the car.

Police allege the woman was not allowed to get out of the car while driving in the Gungahlin region, where the man allegedly assaulted her several times.

The car eventually stopped on the side of the road near Haydon Dr, Bruce, where both the man and woman got out of the car.

Police alleged the pair returned to the car after a few minutes before driving back to the Gungahlin region.

The woman was finally able to leave the man’s residence around 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

He then went to a friend’s house to seek shelter before contacting police.

ACT Police are appealing for witnesses who saw the assault to come forward.

He was arrested and charged with three offences: forcible confinement, strangulation, suffocation or strangling another person and recklessly inflicting actual bodily harm.

He faced the ACT Magistrates Court on Saturday.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the incident or saw the Tesla being driven in Gungahlin or Belconnen on Thursday to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
