The Australian version of the TV show ‘Alone’ has received a scathing review from an American right-wing political activist.
In a gripping tweet, Matt Walsh, who is also an author, podcaster and columnist, describes Alone Australia as “unintentionally the funniest thing on TV right now.”
Alone Australia is an Australian survival competition series based on the successful American version.
The show premiered on SBS in March 2023.
The SBS website promotes the show: “Ten Australians are left alone in separate areas of remote wilderness where they must contend with the forces of nature, hunger and loneliness.”
Conservative commentator Matt Walsh (pictured left) criticized Alone Australia which airs on SBS.
Walsh begins his tweet by writing that he and his wife enjoy watching the American version of Alone, which “features brave and skilled survivors.”
‘We just discovered there is an Australian version and started watching it. Unintentionally the funniest thing on TV right now. It’s basically “Solo: DEI Edition.”
‘DEI’ is the acronym for ‘diversity, equity and inclusion’.
Walsh writes that Alone Australia ticks all the diversity boxes by including two lesbians and “two (who) say they are indigenous”.
‘Ten contestants. Two are lesbians. Two say they are indigenous. One of the lesbians quit after one night.
“One of the indigenous people made a big show about being in touch with nature, etc. and then cried and abandoned him after one night.”
Writes how a ‘Gen Z environmentalist’ requested a medical evacuation after testing positive for COVID-19.
“Another indigenous person tried to eat a toxic millipede.”
Walsh concludes his review by writing: ‘The American version features brave and skilled survivors.
‘The Australian version was more concerned with ticking the diversity boxes, so the contestants are totally clueless, incompetent and just crying throughout the whole thing.
‘Highly recommended. Very fun stuff. And a big warning. Highly recommended.’
‘Apparently they sent the contestants to the desert with COVID tests.
‘And they start each episode with a land reconnaissance. Plus, they have a bunch of woke environmental regulations that prohibit them from hunting virtually any game. Like I said, it’s hilarious.’

Most of the responses to Walsh’s tweet agreed with his opinion on Alone Australia.
‘Do you remember when Australians were thought to be the toughest, most masculine, self-reliant, toughest guys on the planet? Yeah, what happened?’ one said.
A second added: “Australians used to be made of tougher stuff.”
“Australian broadcasters have drunk every last drop of the DEI Kool Aid,” said another.
A third agreed: “That’s the only season I couldn’t finish.” What a joke.
A fourth said: “As an avid Alone watcher and lover of the show, you can’t imagine how absolutely embarrassing it was to watch as an Australian.”
“Numerous applicants are obviously diversity hires and are not even remotely close to being capable survivors – confirmed by the fact that two applicants dropped out on the second day, without attempting to get food or shelter,” they said.
Walsh’s tweet has 2.2 million views, 18,000 likes and 1,300 retweets.
