In relation to a column by independent commentator Mark Seddon of 28 August 2010, we wish to clarify that an allegation of blackmail against Anthony Bailey OBE was dismissed by a magistrates’ court in 1995, which concluded that his accuser was himself “a fraud and an impostor.” . Mr Bailey was ordered to pay full costs.
We regret that this was omitted from our report and are pleased to make clear that, after rejecting a donation from him in 2005, the Labor Party subsequently accepted that the reason for the rejection had been wrong and accepted further donations from him. We regret that these omissions have caused distress.
