Angel Reese’s remarkable rookie season continues.
The Chicago Sky forward had 12 points and 19 rebounds against the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday. Chicago earned an 85-77 victory to make the most of her effort.
The performance extended Reese’s WNBA record for consecutive games with a double-double to 11. She has accomplished the feat in 18 career WNBA games.
Reese claimed the record on Sunday with a 10-point, 17-rebound performance against the Minnesota Lynx. That performance broke the previous record of nine consecutive double-doubles held by future Hall of Famer Candace Parker in her 2015 season.
Now, with each consecutive double-double, Reese sets a new record. It didn’t take much effort to extend it on Tuesday.
Reese scored 10 points and grabbed nine rebounds to start the third quarter. Then, with 5:39 left in the quarter, he grabbed an offensive rebound to secure the double-double.
Can Reese compete for Rookie of the Year?
Reese’s rebounding is proving formidable at the next level. The former LSU star’s 17-rebound effort on Sunday boosted her average to a league-best 11.4 per game. She’s a force on both ends of the floor and entered Tuesday averaging 13.3 points, 1.9 assists and 1.5 steals to go along with her league-best rebounding rate. The effort puts her as prime competition for (who else?) Caitlin Clark in the Rookie of the Year race.
Clark entered Tuesday’s game averaging 16.2 points, 6.9 assists and 5.7 rebounds per game on 34.5 percent shooting from three-point range. The former Iowa phenom and first-round pick by the Indiana Fever continues to improve and is The big favorite in the bets for the award. But Reese continues to present arguments that cannot be ignored.
