An adorable dog with a difficult past needs a new home after his owners heartbreakingly discovered he couldn’t live with their newborn baby.

A six-year-old dog named Brody sadly had to leave his loving family after his owners brought home their newborn baby and quickly discovered that he needed a child-free, pet-free home.

“His current family is devastated to be separated from such a wonderful boy,” Carolina Animal Rescue & Adoption wrote on Facebook.

“It was their (first) baby and they weren’t expecting this. Their plan was always to just incorporate Brody and the baby and move on with their life,” the post continued. “(A) human baby is a very obvious priority and making the decision to rehome Brody really broke their family’s hearts.

“It’s not something they want to do, but it’s clearly not a workable situation. Brody needs a home without small children or animals. It’s that simple.”

“This was their (first) baby, and this was not something they expected. Their plan was always to just add Brody and the baby and move on with life,” the post read.

The North Carolina shelter did not provide further details on why the dog was unable to adjust to the newborn.

Brody came from an abusive past before living with his last family, who adopted him when he was just one year old.

The large dog, who is currently in a foster home, has a loving personality and is known to be a “lovable animal” who was “never more than a few feet from his people,” the adoption center said.

“He loves playing hide and seek with his toys, wandering around the neighborhood, sunbathing in his fenced yard, and ‘helping’ his mom work from home,” the Facebook post read. “While he follows his mom around and is never far from her side, he is not a one-person pet and dearly loves the other human members of his family.”

The indoor dog also knows basic commands and is leash and car trained.

Brody’s story comes just weeks after a woman was heavily criticised for abandoning a defenceless German Shepherd puppy, before denying any wrongdoing.

Jubree Johnson, 22, exclusively admitted to DailyMail.com that she ran away after leaving the three-month-old puppy at a mobile home park in Fresno, California, in May, but claimed it was after the owner had already abandoned the dog.

Johnson added: “The dog was already abandoned. It was not mine or my partner’s.

‘We were in the area when we saw the dog.

We took her to the nearest shelter, but they couldn’t take her in because they were closed for the weekend.

“My friend, who had been talking about wanting a dog a few minutes before we saw this one, saw the pup walking nearby on the street,” she told DailyMail.com.

‘My friend loves dogs.’

They only had the dog for a total of 10 minutes before releasing him back into the street.

‘The shelter suggested we take the dog back to where he was found.’

Johnson claimed he didn’t have money for gas to go around several shelters to find a safe place for the dog, so they followed the alleged advice and took the dog back to the area where they found him.
