An American home chef has sparked anger after sharing an “Australian steak trick” she learned down under.

Jane Brain I recently cooked a sirloin steak with egg, Vegemite and a tangy truffle sauce – simultaneously making a side dish with Cheezels, oat milk and melted white cheddar.

The chef frequently attempts strange satirical recipes online, much to the dismay of millions – and Australians are particularly outraged by her strange choice of ingredients, saying the act could “get her kicked out”.

“This is definitely worth a prison sentence in Australia,” one said, while another added: “I’m literally crying right now.”

In her video, Jane started her dinner prep by removing the center of a sirloin steak and placing an egg in the middle.

After the steak began to cook on the hot pan, she squeezed half a bottle of Vegemite onto the top and sides.

“We’re just going to drizzle a little bit of this Vegemite sauce to make a nice, thick marinade for our steak,” she said. “Make sure it’s fully coated – I like to do the front and sides.”

Jane joked that the yeast spread “looked like Nutella” – and she also had no qualms about using the chocolate and hazelnut spread on a steak.

“Then we’re going to take a bag of Cheezels – the only thing you can find that’s orange cheddar in this country – and use it for our side dish.”

She dumped a package of Cheezels onto the hot pan, saying it was convenient because it would cook at the same time as the steak.

“The Cheezels are a little dry — so we’ll add a little oat milk to give them something to cook with,” she said.

“We’re going to add some white cheddar on top – it’ll melt and give it that nice, creamy texture we’re looking for. Think of it like Cheezel Mashed Potatoes – but way better.

Jane added generous amounts of salt, pepper and hot truffle sauce to the dish.

“The hot sauce will match the inside of the steak because we cook it medium rare,” she said. “Then you want to crush the Cheezels.

“Your kids will love this, what a fun meal!” » she added.

Jane finished by flipping the steak and adding more Vegemite to the other side to make it “nice and juicy”.

She plated the dish and cracked the egg, revealing that it was half-poached.

Jane cut herself a piece of steak and dipped it in the egg yolk and Cheezel mashed potatoes before taking a bite.

Australians who thought Jane was serious criticized her recipe.

“No Australian would ruin a steak with Vegemite,” said one.

“These Cheezels turn into perfect mashed potatoes” is a phrase I never thought I could say out loud,” another wrote.

A third said: “Someone call immigration, we have a crazy guy who needs cooking lessons and the next flight home.” »

But a few others joined in the joke.

“As an Australian, it’s 100% authentic and our best dish. All Americans should try this,” one man wrote.
