The American rapper Mac Miller was found dead by an apparent overdose. He was 26 years old.
According to reports, he was found at his home in the San Fernando Valley on Friday. More details are currently unclear. Variety has approached Miller's camp to get more information.
Miller, whose real name is Malcolm James McCormick, had had problems with substance abuse in the past. Just last month, the Los Angeles Prosecutor's Office officially accused the rapper of a DUI due to a car accident in May in the San Fernando Valley.
He had been open about his struggles before, referring to drug abuse and death in his music, especially in the largely autobiographical 2014 Mixtape Faces.
"He used to rape super-openly about the really dark shit," he told Vulture in a profile he posted on Thursday. "That's what I was experiencing at that moment, it's okay, that's fine, that's life, it should be all emotions."
Miller had been in a long-term relationship with Ariana Grande, which ended last May. Shortly after his car accident and arrest that same month, Grande tweeted "please take care of yourself".
Miller had just prepared to embark on a tour of the United States after releasing his last album, Swimming, on August 3. It was scheduled to begin on October 27 in San Francisco.
"I just want to go on tour," he tweeted on Thursday. "The show is going to be special every night, I'd like it to start tomorrow."
