Amateur chef claims mushroom soup, and a can of coke is the secret to perfectly juicy roast beef

Amateur chef is sharing the internet with her bizarre roast beef recipe made with a can of COKE – but she insists it’s the ‘best ever’

  • A woman believes that soup and a can of Coke are the secret to perfect roast beef
  • She seasoned a marbled piece of meat with a packet of dry onion soup mix
  • Then marinate it in cola and mushroom soup before cooking it for 12 hours
  • She says the bizarre recipe creates a soft, juicy and flavorful roast

The secret to making juicy roast beef is seasoning the meat with dry onion soup mix, marinating in cola and mushroom soup, and roasting in a slow cooker for 12 hours, an amateur cook claimed.

The woman – who didn’t mention her name – shared the bizarre recipe in an Australian cooking group on Facebook, calling it “ easily the best roast ” she’s ever made for its flavor and tenderness.

She said she’s tried at least nine different roast beef recipes, none of which compare to the soup and coke technique that now has her ‘go-to, never look back, make-once-a-week miracle’ dinner has become.

But not everyone was convinced, with many expressing their unwillingness to put out what is typically an expensive cut of meat in soda, and confusion over how to cook beef for 12 hours – more than four times the accepted roast time.

Roast beef can be made with top round, top sirloin steak, bottom round or eye of round cuts, seasoned with salt, pepper and herbs such as thyme and rosemary.

Beef is usually cooked for two to two and a half hours for medium and three hours for a good cut of meat.

“Look at that delicious piece of beef, I know – I pour a lot of diluted sugar over it. Not for me, thanks’, a man posted under a photo of the ingredients.

The woman mentioned her method in the caption, revealing that she starts by sprinkling a pack of dry onion soup mix over the beef, preferably a marbled cut.

Marbled beef is considered the best cut for roasting because of the fat threaded through it, leaving the meat tender, juicy and full of flavor.

“Looks intriguing,” said one woman, but ended her comment with a stunned emoji to indicate her hesitation.

A member of the cooking group backed her recipe, saying she had tried something similar, but used syrup instead of cola.

It is not the first time that an unusual roast dinner recipe has sparked debate on Facebook.

A woman impressed her chefs in February by using a jar of ready-to-eat honey and mustard simmer sauce to coat a piece of silver meat before roasting it in a slow cooker for seven hours.

Her frugal recipe, which requires only two ingredients, has been widely praised by a woman who declared that she would “never roast in any other way.”
