Donald Trump’s lawyer insists nothing will stop the former president from running for a second term in the White House, even if he has to campaign from a prison cell.
Trump was found guilty Thursday on all 34 counts of falsifying business records for covering up the payment of money to porn star Stormy Daniels in an effort to influence the 2016 election.
His sentencing is scheduled for July 11. Legal experts do not expect the former president to face jail time, but each sentence carries a maximum of four years in prison.
In an interview with the BBC, Trump’s lawyer Alina Habba said Trump will run for president even if his appeal fails or he ends up in a cell.
‘He’s running for president. Nothing will change that,” Habba said.

When pressed to run even if he’s locked up, she pointed to polls and an increase in donations since he became a convicted felon.
“Again, I recommend that you look at the latest polls in this country among the people who live in this country,” he said. ‘The people who need it in this country. Because, frankly, it’s more important than anything anyone else thinks. Our people speak loudly.”
Trump’s campaign says it raised more than $50 million in donations after the former president was convicted.

The latest polls show an extremely close race between Trump and President Biden. The Real Clear Politics average has Trump ahead by less than one point.
Trump was asked about the possibility of being sentenced to house arrest or even prison during a very friendly interview with Fox & Friends over the weekend.
“I agree with that,” Trump responded.
“The other day I saw one of my lawyers on TV saying, oh, no, you don’t want to do that to the press. I told him, you know, don’t beg him for anything. “That’s the way things are,” he continued.
Trump also attacked Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg and Judge Juan Merchan, who will determine his sentence.

Prison is generally not recommended for the type of charges Trump was convicted of.
Legal experts note that he is considered a nonviolent offender with white-collar criminal convictions. Trump, at 77, also has no prior convictions.
They expect the former president to be more likely to face probation or heavy fines.
Once the ruling is handed down, Trump’s legal team is expected to appeal.
