Alan Shearer has come to the defense of Mohamed Salah, following the Liverpool striker’s bizarre touchline row with Jurgen Klopp.

The Reds striker was involved in a heated exchange with his manager during the 2-2 draw against West Ham on Saturday.

Salah stayed on the bench during the trip to the London Stadium, but upon being introduced in the second half, he let his frustration spill over to Klopp.

Klopp appeared to say something to the Egyptian that sparked an angry reaction, prompting Salah to wave his arms, point to the pitch and then point at his coach.

Speaking about the incident during BBC Match of the Day, Shearer sympathized with the Liverpool talisman and could understand his frustrations.

‘We don’t know what Klopp told him there. “He said something that irritated him,” said the former England striker.

“He’s obviously right to be excluded and probably rightly so, although he hasn’t reached the heights that Mo Salah has reached over the years. “He’s been an incredible player.

“He ignores Jurgen (Klopp), gives the Liverpool fans a little applause and goes straight down the tunnel.

But we’re guessing what Jurgen told him. I understand that if Mo has the right hump because of the number of times she has been Liverpool’s superstar and their savior.

“He has 17 goals in 25 starts in the league. Anyone else would look at that and think ‘unbelievable’. It’s a shame it ends like this because of what Klopp and Salah have done.”

Salah continued to berate his outgoing coach and only stopped his display of discontent when striker Darwin Nunez intervened.

Klopp and the Liverpool star later crossed paths on the pitch, however, there was no sign of reconciliation between the two, much to the chagrin of Liverpool fans.

Speaking after the match, Klopp insisted the matter was closed as far as he was concerned.

“We talked about it in the locker room and that’s done for me,” he said.

Asked if he thought Salah was also willing to move on, the German replied: “That was my impression.”

Salah, however, sounded much less conciliatory when he turned down interviews after the draw against West Ham, saying: “There will be a fire today if I speak.”

It was a frustrating afternoon for the Merseysiders as their title challenge all but ended when they dropped two more points against David Moyes’ side.

Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for the Hammers, before Andy Robertson and an own goal from Alphonse Areola turned the game in Liverpool’s favor.

However, Michail Antonio’s goal thirteen minutes from time allowed West Ham to win a share of the spoils and dash Klopp’s hopes of ending his final season with a title medal.
