Activision has appointed the former lawyer to Queen Elizabeth II to lead the appeal against the CMA’s decision

Date:

After halting Microsoft’s upcoming acquisition of Activision, both companies have vowed to appeal the decision against the UK’s Competition and Market Authority (CMA). Now, Activision has taken the first step by hiring a lawyer to represent the appeal who is known for his past handling of UK Parliament and Queen Elizabeth II cases.

According to Florian Mueller, the legal counsel — whose full title is Lord David Pannick KC — will represent Activision/Blizzard’s appeal to the Competition Appeals Tribunal (CAT), and Microsoft also plans to move forward with a parallel appeal with UK attorney Daniel Beard KC handling the case.

Bannick has worked as a solicitor in the legal field for several decades and is considered one of the most prominent figures in the UK in the legal field, previously dealing with clients such as Boris Johnson during the infamous “Partigate” scandal and handling cases for Queen Elizabeth II during her later years.
