AC Milan have shown interest in Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin as talks continue for the striker with Newcastle United.

The Italian team wants a replacement for Olivier Giroud, who joined LAFC in the MLS and is scouring Europe for alternatives, but still needs to sell first.

They have also contacted Bologna for Dutch international Joshua Zirkzee, who has a £34m clause that comes into effect from July 1, but is also a target for Manchester United.

Everton have been in talks with Newcastle over a £35m deal for Calvert-Lewin and have offered around £30m for Newcastle winger Yankuba Minteh.

Brighton have also discussed a bid for Minteh, however French side Lyon are understood to be willing to pay Newcastle’s asking price of around £40m.

That could cause a problem in talks with Everton, who wanted to keep the two deals together.

Everton have offered 27-year-old Calvert-Lewin a new contract but a new challenge beckons.

Chelsea have shown tentative interest but are now looking at younger options with Lille’s Jonathan David, Aston Villa’s Jhon Duran and Hoffenheim’s Maximilian Meier as active targets.

Manchester United are also among Calvert-Lewin’s admirers, but would be reluctant to pay Everton’s asking price.

They are already doubting the Goodison club’s valuation of Jarrad Branthwaite but are expected to make an improved offer for the defender this week.

His initial offer of £38m plus £5m in add-ons was rejected by Everton last week.

Milan have also inquired about Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee (pictured), who could be available for around £35m.
