When her father called her to give her the wedding dates, she misheard him and thought he had said the wedding would be the following Saturday, which happened to be her birthday, so she rushed to book her one-way flight for £200. .

Despite much subsequent communication since the initial phone call, no one realized Llarissa’s mistake (least of all her) until she was on the plane and about to take off on May 31.

“My dad must have said ‘next year will be my birthday.’ But I heard ‘we’re sorry it’s short notice, we understand if you can’t come.'”

‘I had to ask a girl to change shifts at the last minute. I sent my flights but they hadn’t seen that she said 2024.

‘On Friday morning I text them saying, “I’m at the airport, see you in a few hours.” They tried to call me but my phone was on sleep mode.

‘I was about to take off and I saw all the messages. I called my dad and he told me ”Llarissa, the wedding is not until next year”. We were just laughing on the phone.

Llarissa had booked the four-hour trip back to her home town of Frodsham, Cheshire, immediately when she thought her father had said he was getting married on June 2.

I guess a year is a short time for my father. Now I have time to fix my tan lines. It’s all fun. I’m usually pretty organized. I have never arrived a year early.
