Dutch police found a staggering £10million worth of cocaine hidden inside two coffins.

Police discovered the 250kg of cocaine during a raid near Numansdorp, in the South Holland province of the Netherlands, on December 13.

A 30-year-old suspect from Rotterdam, France, was arrested following the shocking discovery.

The Dutch Police National Expertise and Operations Unit said in a statement the next day that the suspect “He was driving a van with French registration on the A29 near Numansdorp and displayed suspicious (driving) behaviour.”

When the driver was stopped and asked for an explanation, he stated that he was transporting the two coffins which he told the police contained bodies.

“However, the documents were not verified,” the police added.

‘Our colleagues then went to a funeral home to carry out a verification. There the coffins were discovered to contain sports bags containing more than 250kg of cocaine, with a street value of €13m (£10m).

“The man has been arrested and the drugs have been destroyed,” he confirmed.

It comes after investigators discovered a £40million stash of cocaine hidden in an inflatable boat off the coast of West Sussex in October.

Six men were arrested over a half-tonne haul discovered by the National Crime Agency at Medmerry Beach, near Selsey.

A 39-year-old man was arrested at Luton Airport, a 39-year-old man was arrested in Liverpool and a 38-year-old man was arrested in Peterborough, Cambridgeshire.

Police also detained a 45-year-old man in Bournemouth, Dorset, a 41-year-old man was arrested in Poole and a 36-year-old man was also arrested in Tilbury, Essex.

A month earlier, a fishing boat carrying around a tonne of cocaine was intercepted off the Cornish coast, resulting in a “huge loss” for an organized crime group, the National Crime Agency (NCA) said.

NCA officers arrested four men and seized the drugs after the boat was stopped at sea near Newquay in September.

The four men were arrested on suspicion of importing class A drugs.

Images provided by the NCA showed 17 brick-shaped packages wrapped in brown and two wrapped in dark, most labeled “pezx”.

And in August, two drug dealers took to the sea in a failed attempt to escape authorities after being caught with £37m worth of cocaine on their boat.

Bruce Knowles, 55, and Ferhat Gumrukguoglu, 31, were intercepted by Border Force near East Benacre Broads in Suffolk with 350kg of cocaine in the hull of their boat.

Border Force Deputy Director Sally Hawkyard said: ‘Our Border Force officers played a vital role in detecting and seizing millions of pounds worth of cocaine, ensuring these two men were brought to justice.

‘We remain committed to stopping illegal drugs from entering the country, where they ruin lives and feed organized criminal gangs.

“Border Force will continue to work tirelessly to keep the public safe and our borders secure.”
