A plane passenger has detailed the shocking incident that occurred when she sat between a couple, adding that she spent the entire flight being “rudely” criticised.
The anonymous 23-year-old frequent traveler took to Reddit to share her frustrations with people on the web.
In a thread titled People with the rightThe passenger revealed she had received a torrent of unwanted attitude when she sat between a couple, despite offering to change seats.
She explained that she was supposed to travel on a different flight, for which she had paid for an assigned seat directly with the airline, but was changed at the last minute due to a medical emergency.
And while she had no control over where she sat on the new flight, the couple next to her made it clear they were having trouble dealing with last-minute passenger arrivals.

The post was titled: ‘Apparently I ruined this woman’s plane trip.’
She wrote: ‘I’m a 23 year old woman, I don’t know the couple’s ages but they looked to be in their 20s or 30s.
‘This flight was about five hours long. I always pay extra and choose my seat in advance. However, due to a medical emergency on a flight earlier in the day, I was put on a standby list because the people who got off that flight were placed on our flight as it was the next one headed to the same place.
“Luckily, towards the end of boarding, my name was called. I was lucky and was able to get on this flight (I think they changed to a bigger plane), instead of having to wait for the next flight.”
He noted that on the new flight, his new seat ended up being between two others.
When she got to her row, she saw a man and a woman chatting and sharing snacks, so she asked them if they would rather sit next to each other instead of her sitting in the middle, but they declined.
She said: ‘The woman immediately reacted rudely. She said something like: ‘You shouldn’t be sitting here anyway.’
‘I explained the situation to him (I’m pretty sure everyone on the plane was aware of this, as there had been announcements and reshuffles). I offered to show him my new ticket as well (it said my seat number).
The anonymous 23-year-old frequent traveler took to Reddit to share her frustrations with people on the web.
‘She waved her hand at my ticket and made a disgusted sound. I again offered her to sit together… to which she did not respond. Her partner said “okay” and seemed more friendly between the two of us.
“I sat down and he started talking to me about how the plane must be really full.”
And although the woman’s partner tried to be more understanding with her new seat neighbor, she did not give up.
The 23-year-old added: “The woman didn’t wait long and eventually interrupted us. She asked me: ‘Did you use one of those third-party websites to book your flight? It’s so frustrating when people cut corners to inconvenience others.'”
“I told him I had booked direct and the only reason I was put on a waitlist (along with many other people) was because of a medical emergency that occurred on another flight. Neither of us were able to choose our seats. He asked if I had paid for seat selection. I said yes.”
After that encounter, she explained: ‘I was so fed up with his attitude that I put my headphones on and tried to do my thing.
‘For the remaining four hours, (the woman) kept coming towards me and touching her partner and trying to talk to him in a way that was super intrusive to me, being caught between them.
‘I noticed that even her partner was trying to get her to stop talking to her so that she would stop doing it, but she didn’t. And the whole time she acted like I was the problem in this situation.
People on the web flocked to the comments section to vent their frustrations towards the anonymous couple.
Unexpectedness aside, I think they tried to use that tactic of not sitting together on purpose, leaving the middle seat empty, hoping that no one would sit between them. But on full flights (which most are) that doesn’t work. And even then, it’s not the other person’s fault.
People on the web flocked to the comments section to vent their frustrations towards the anonymous couple.
One person said: “Sounds exactly like the middle seat thing. I really don’t understand why they would rather inconvenience themselves (and you) and not switch seats with you. It’s a weird hill to die on.”
Someone else added: “Every time she put her hand in front of my face to get her attention, I would wait a few moments and then do it again to adjust the window blinds.”
“Wow! You’re my hero for keeping it classy. I’m afraid I wouldn’t have been as nice as you,” another person commented.
“You have done nothing wrong. I am so sorry you were subjected to such a horrible cow,” another person added.
In the past, many passengers have also wondered whether they should change seats while traveling if someone asks them to.
A couple of months ago, a frequent flyer sent out a PSA to his fellow passengers about changing seats after a nightmare experience that saw him forced to change seats five times when he reluctantly gave up his original spot.
The unknown man took to Reddit to tell the story of his seat swap that “permanently changed (his) opinion on being nice and swapping seats with someone.”
Another frequent flyer previously revealed she refused to switch her window seat with an “entitled” passenger who wanted to sit next to his wife.
The anonymous woman took to Reddit to share how she refused to move to the middle seat during an 11-hour flight from New York to Cairo, Egypt, so that the man sitting next to her could sit next to his wife.
She shared her story on the social media platform as a way to rant against the man on the Entitled People subreddit, prompting others on the web to criticize the man for asking someone else to upgrade to a lower-quality seat so he could be happy.
