A home hacks guru has revealed her top ten tips for packing for a holiday – and one of them has been described as “life-changing”.
Chantel Ibbotson, a Melbourne mum known online as Mama Mila, shared these helpful hacks with her 2.8 million followers this week.
They include tips to ensure your luggage stays smelling fresh, make the most of your space, and how to prevent breakages.
But there is one tip that has been the most well-received and that helps travelers prevent liquids like sunscreen or makeup from leaking back into their bag.
Prevent necklaces from tangling by threading them through a straw.
Chantel called this hack an absolute “game changer” for saving time and frustration when untangling packed necklaces.
One follower said: ‘Last time I travelled I used your straw nozzle to make necklaces and it was amazing.’
Use a button to keep the earrings together

The mother of two also showed her followers how a simple button can be used to hold pairs of earrings together, by attaching each earring through a hole in the button.
This will also help prevent the earring from getting damaged during your travels.
Use hanging packing cubes
Chantel recommended hanging packing cubes that can be purchased online as a great solution to “make packing and unpacking so quick and easy.”
One fan had never heard of hanging packing cubes and couldn’t wait to try them out.
“They save a lot of time and space. It makes sense if you travel frequently,” said another woman.
Fill your shoes with socks
Chantel stores her socks inside her shoes to save space.
But fans expressed their shock when Chantel simply placed her sock-stuffed shoes into her suitcase.
“Wow! You put your shoes right there? I would never do that,” one follower said.
Chantel, who goes by Mama Mila on social media, had some fresh ideas on how to maximize space, prevent breakages and spills, and even a hack for making your purse smell good.
She assured them that she placed her used shoes in a clean bag and then back into the suitcase, after finishing filming the video.
Spray perfume on cotton pads to keep your suitcase smelling fresh
Mom sprays cotton pads with her favorite perfume and keeps them in her suitcase to keep her bag smelling fresh and pleasant.
Place cotton pads in your makeup bags to prevent breakage.
She also puts cotton pads inside her compact makeup cases to prevent them from breaking every time she travels.
The idea was a revelation to one woman who exclaimed: “Oh my God, cotton in makeup.”
Squeeze excess air out of toiletries
Perhaps the least-known trick, Chantel showed her followers how to remove excess air from toiletries by gently squeezing them.
“This creates a vacuum that prevents leaks,” he explained.
Pack a laundry bag
This tip allows travelers to easily find clean clothes while keeping dirty and smelly clothes separate in their own bag.
Fold blazers and pack them on top of your suitcase
Chantel showed fans who want to keep a jacket wrinkle-free how to properly fold it and place it on top of the bag so it stays smooth and presentable.
One follower suggested another tip that Chantel said she had to try.
“When I go out, I fold all my clothes in tissue paper, like they do in stores. They wrinkle very little. When I come back, not so much,” she said.
Pack belts around your suitcase to save space
Her latest trick for achieving a perfectly packed travel bag was to place the belts around the edge of the suitcase rather than in a bulky bundle that wastes valuable packing space.
Fans appreciated the packing tips and the video garnered 12,328 likes.
