Mayor Hardi sayingWe have been embracing the urban planning concept of a “15-minute city,” where a wide range of amenities are within a 15-minute walk, bike ride, or convenient public transportation ride.
‘In fact, 70 percent of our residents now live within a 10-minute walk of a grocery store, not to mention our weekly farmers market, diverse restaurants, gyms, parks, and civic and cultural life.’

This has been reflected in the statistics.

Deaths from despair and severe mental distress are much lower in Falls Church than the national average. Mayor Letty Hardi attributes this to a strong sense of community and a majority of people engaging in mood-boosting physical activity.
Mayor Hardi said, “As The Little City grows, we need to continue adding more affordable and diverse housing so more people can share in the benefits our community enjoys.”
People also need to work six and a half hours more on average to be able to afford housing there.
The net migration rate is -11.1 percent, meaning more people are leaving the city than arriving. At the same time, Mayor Hardi said the city’s population is growing, particularly in the small downtown area.
The worst-performing places on the list are in Minnesota, Kentucky, Nebraska and California. Counties in those places are largely rural, which greatly increases the likelihood that it will be harder to access health care, particularly preventive care.
The population health scores for those counties ranged from 55 to 71.
