A man was shot by police after he allegedly pulled out a knife in a hospital emergency room.

The man was shot at Kingaroy General Hospital in Queensland’s South Burnett region at about 7.34pm on Friday.

He is being treated by hospital staff and his condition is unknown.

A witness said he saw the man emerge from a bathroom with a kitchen knife, the Courier Mail reported.

“The man walked past our friend and also past a woman with a small child,” he said.

‘Police were called and the man was shot twice.’

The woman added that an officer involved in the shooting collapsed after the incident.
