A Colorado teenager was shot in the face by a city council member after a homeowner reported intruders, according to the local sheriff’s department.

The incident was reported to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday afternoon in Conifer, Colorado.

According to authorities, a homeowner reported two trespassers on her property and called her boyfriend, Brent Metz, 38, to inform him about them.

Officers then arrived and found two teenagers, one of whom was bleeding profusely from his face, while the other was applying pressure to his wound with a shirt.

The two told police that Metz had opened fire on them and that they had been trying to ask the owner if they could use the place to take welcome photos.

The 17-year-old who was shot told officers that Metz had shot him through the windshield of his car, before he was later taken to the hospital.

According to police, the boys had driven up to the property and parked at the gate before jumping over the fence to speak to the homeowner.

Metz was arrested and booked on first-degree assault, two counts of aggravated menacing, unlawful discharge of a firearm and two counts of reckless endangerment.

When no one showed up, they walked around the property trying to find someone to talk to about their request.

As they returned to their vehicle to write a note for the homeowner, they said Metz appeared on the scene and fired shots from his truck.

Officers said they managed to recover the firearm used in the shooting from inside Metz’s truck.

An arrest affidavit seen by CBS NewsMetz refused to speak to the responding officers and asked for an attorney.

The affidavit also says the 17-year-old told officers he did not believe Metz had intentionally shot him.

According to the report, the teen “heard the driver (Brent) say ‘oh shit, my gun went off.'”

Metz is a member of the Mountain View City Council, according to its website, having been sworn in last year.
