“A bloody revolution”: Haitians struggle for power and reject international aid – video report

Protests broke out in Port-au-Prince against the Caribbean Community (Caricom) plan to install an interim Prime Minister after the announcement of the resignation of Ariel Henry.

Jimmy “Barbecue” Chérizier, a special forces policeman turned gang leader, controls much of the Haitian capital alongside other criminal groups, and politicians across the country are fighting for power, making the creation unlikely of a presidential transition council.

Politically connected gangs have wreaked havoc in the Haitian capital over the past two weeks, storming prisons, taking control of the port, burning stores and police stations and laying siege to the international airport.
