Australian heartthrob Ryan Kwanten gained thousands of devoted fans when he played heartthrob sheriff Jason Stackhouse on True Blood.
But after starring in the popular HBO series, the former Home and Away star, 47, disappeared from the radar and almost completely erased her social media presence.
He was last seen in public in 2022, when he enjoyed breakfast in Manly with his family and fiancée Ashley Sisino after flying from Los Angeles.
The veteran actor had a career boom when he moved to Los Angeles after his time on Home and Away, and landed on the hit HBO series True Blood from 2008 to 2014.
However, he is rarely seen on the big screen these days, despite working more than ever in the film industry.
Australian heartthrob Ryan Kwanten, 47, (pictured) won a legion of devoted fans when he played heartthrob Sheriff Jason Stackhouse in True Blood.
Ryan has taken some very interesting steps in his acting career, choosing to “support new, independent filmmakers” as often as possible.
In an interview with Cinema Australia In 2022, Ryan said he is most excited to help other Australians “raise their creative baby” and execute their vision.
“There’s nothing that appeals to me more than being on set…surrounded by crazy, like-minded people,” he said.
‘(We are) all working towards the goal of trying to make art in the midst of all this madness. It’s amazing. I love it.’
Since True Blood, Ryan has worked on a host of films and television series, with his IMDB showing multiple works that are published each year.
Since then, the former Home and Away star disappeared from the map and almost completely erased her social media presence.
Most recently, he teamed with Australian director Ivan Sen on Mystery Road and Expired, the latter starring Hugo Weaving and Jillian Nguyen.
Ryan also starred in the Australian sci-fi thriller 2067, directed by Seth Larney, alongside fellow Down Under actor Kodi Smit-McPhee.
Dark characters have frequently attracted Ryan’s attention as he took on roles in several lesser-known thrillers and horrors, including Glorious, Sacred Lies, and Creepshow.
Ryan still takes on star gigs from time to time and Section 8 in 2022 will see him perform alongside the likes of Dermot Mulroney, Dolph Lungren and Mickey Rourke.
He produced and starred in two seasons of Sony’s original The Oath alongside Sean Bean, which also featured Curtis ’50 cent’ Jackson as a producer.

Last year, Ryan starred in The Portrait and Head Count and is currently in production with a film titled Primitive War.
Despite his seemingly non-stop flow of work, Ryan has rarely been seen in the media or online, and has chosen to keep much of his work and personal life private.
He told Cinema Australia he has been “much happier” since turning his back on social media despite having been very active with fans on various platforms.
As of now, he appears to have an X page (Twitter) and Instagram that he is no longer active on, and a Facebook page that only posts previews of his work.
“I’ve gotten further and further away from social media and deeper into the mystery,” he said, adding that he wants fans to “merge” with his characters rather than with him as an actor.
The veteran actor had a career boom when he moved to Los Angeles after his time on Home and Away, and landed on the hit HBO series True Blood from 2008 to 2014.
In 2020, during an exclusive interview with WhatsNew2Day Australia, Ryan said: ‘I’m just a private guy, period.
“I try to put all the drama in my life on screen and leave my life off screen as drama-free as possible.
“I think the more people know about me, the less inclined they are to believe in the character I play.
“I want to portray as much truth as I can in that character, so the more they know about me, the harder I have to work.”
However, he is rarely seen on the big screen today, despite working more than ever in the film industry.
Ryan has yet to publish any work this year and, although it is unclear where he currently resides, he has previously said that he eventually wants to return to Australia.
Speaking to WhatsNew2Day Australia in 2015, Ryan hinted that he would return to Australia permanently, saying: ‘I think I’ll come home; I have never doubted it.
“Unfortunately or fortunately, here (Los Angeles) is where I have to be for now, but the plan is always to return home.”
The handsome blonde introduced his fiancée to the charms of his home country when the couple made a foray back to Australia in October 2014.
‘What does anyone think about Australia? She loves it!’ Ryan said about her visit.
“I’ve gotten further and further away from social media and deeper into the mystery,” Ryan said of his absence, adding that he wants fans to “merge” with his characters rather than him as an actor.
During their stay here, the couple will no doubt live in Balgowlah, an affluent suburb on the northern beaches, where Ryan was last known to own a flat.
The ground floor unit was an investment property for Ryan, who bought it in 2017, as he would normally reside in the United States with his partner Ashley.
The savvy star made his first real estate purchase more than two decades ago, when he was 22 and starring as Vinnie Patterson on Home and Away.
In 1999, he bought a studio in Manly for $162,000; a small sum compared to current prices.
