Australian star Daniel Ricciardo has come under fire from F1 fans after his first public response to the ‘sex texting’ scandal involving Red Bull boss and close friend Christian Horner, which has rocked the sport.

The Perth-born driver, 34, referred to the saga as “noise and distractions”, and it wasn’t long before an avalanche of criticism followed on social media.

“You have the audacity to act like this whole ordeal is ‘noise’. A seat is more important than your integrity? I don’t respect you,” raged one fan.

Another posted: ‘Okay, I’m done. Daniel, you’re kidding yourself if you think you’re in that seat and not Liam Lawson for any reason other than PR. Red Bull will never put you in that seat again… you’re nothing more than their smiling cash cow.’

Another felt that Ricciardo was “delusional” and was nothing more than a “smiling cash cow for Red Bull.”

A third branded Ricciardo a “misogynist”, and a fourth said his portrayal of the Horner saga unmasked the “true identity” of the F1 cult hero.

His comments were made in an interview ahead of the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix this weekend.

Ricciardo told television networks for the first time that he hopes the situation will “slowly disappear.”

When asked if these “dirty things” can destabilize F1 teams, he replied: “You always want things to be more fluid than they are.”

“There’s a lot of noise and distractions right now, there’s no doubt about it,” said Visa CashApp driver RB.

“So, yeah, I hope these things slowly start to go away and they can focus on being a racing team.”

Ricciardo entered Formula 1 through the Red Bull development system, where he made a name for himself in the sport before his surprise move to Renault ahead of the 2019 season.

The Australian continues in the fight to replace Sergio Pérez at Red Bull in 2025.

His loyalty to Horner comes after the Red Bull boss was cleared of “coercive behavior towards a female colleague” through an internal investigation ahead of the start of the 2024 season in Bahrain.

Before the first race of the season in Bahrain, Ricciardo said he felt sorry for Horner.

“We were obviously aware of everything that was going on,” he told reporters.

‘But would you say it’s been a distraction on the court? No I would not.

“Knowing that we also have so little time, it really was a case of ‘I need to focus on myself, my team and my driving.'”

‘Do I have feelings for him through all of this? Yes, I’ve known Christian for a long time.

“He’s always been great to me. So I hope there’s a fair outcome and resolution soon.”
